Chokecherry
Prunus virginiana
The chokecherry plant can be located in northern Missouri in the eastern deciduous forest. Not only does the plant have medicinal uses, but it has also been a common food among native american tribes for years.

One main medicinal use for this plant is consuming dried berries from the plant which helps calm diarrhea. Also, it can soak anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 months in rice wine, then it can be strained to result in a tincture that can be taken by the spoonfuls before meals to help relieve coughs and pain.
Active chemicals in this plant that are responsible for its medicinal properties are hyrdocyanic acid...

and glycoside.
