Cinquefoil

Cinquefoil
Potentilla simplex

Cinquefoil is a plant with yellow flowers that grows in the tall grass prairies of Missouri. The plant has many medicinal uses from aiding with healing wounds to calming skin problems.

The roots can be made into a tea or tincture and be used to help cure fevers, sore throats, toothaches, and even to rid of infection. Externally, the root can be made into decoction by boiling 2 tsp. of the herb with 1 cup of boiling milk to ease pain and heal wounds quicker. Lastly, it can also be added to bath water to stop the bleeding from various external wounds.

The main chemical that gives cinquefoil its medicinal properties is known as tannin.
