Asiatic Dayflower
Commelina communis

Although the Asiatic Dayflower is native to Asia, it can be found in the eastern deciduous forests of the eastern united states, including Missouri. It also has many medicinal uses that have been used for ages for this plant.

The leaves of the plant are primarily used to make a tea which when consumed and/or gargled, helps calm sore throats. In addition, the tea has antipyretic and anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce fevers and swelling.

Active chemicals that give this plant its medicinal properties include P-hydroxycinnamic acid(anti-bacterial)...

and D-mannitol(antitussive).
