Aloe vera

The aloe plant grows in the tall grass prairies of Missouri as it tolerates heat and drought rather well. It is also known to have a variety of medicinal uses such as anti-inflammatory, laxative, stimulation of the immune system, and reliving of burns.

Aloe leaves can be made into a gel or an ointment and applied externally to several different types of burns and rashes to relieve the "sting" as well as decreasing swelling in sprains and other injuries. The leaves can also be made into a juice or tea and ingested to stimulate the immune system and help build anti-bodies.

Active chemicals in aloe vera include aloins...

and Anthraquinones.
